Do Ratings Matter?

Recently, powerhouses like Dallas Grease Lightning have been suffering strange losses to bad or dead teams. It has recently been put forth that a 60-50-40-60 player can hit better than a 90-80-70-80 player. Some evidence has been shown that teams with low-rated players, can have winning records and players hitting above .300. What do you think about this?

Washington Bears: NO, because sometimes a player can have insane ratings and not hit above .250. If ratings mattered, my team wouldn't be this ass.

Portland Cobras: YES they do but not fully. They can give a good representation of if a player can be good. Without ratings free agency couldn't work, because you could be signing a guy that bats .150, while another guy right next to him could bat .350 with 30 HRS. You want higher enough ratings, but look at the codfish in their early. Not insane ratings, but were contenders to win 50 games.

Seattle Cyclones: YES because ultimately the simulator "thinks" about ratings, not other factors. That is all it cares about.

Chicago WINNERS: YES, Well it's not important as FtV BUT IT Does give you a great gauge on potential

Philadelphia FISH TOWN: It has a meaning, As an estimate player level skills, supposingly

Chattanooga Batmen: YES. I don't admins would have ratings if he didn't build them into the sim somehow. To what extent they matter, I don't know.

Yonkers Renegades: Okay so here's my response - yes(ish)

Offensive ratings are a key to helping you find a player's archetype, but shouldn't be the only factor in making bids, assembling a team or creating a lineup. I find that there are multiple successful types of player - contact+power, contact+speed, power+defense etc - and ratings are good ways to identify players that match the mold you're looking for. That said, some variety is a good thing to have. My WS-winning team was based largely on outstanding offense that hit for percentage and stole bases like Wall Street steals pensions. But even in that lineup I had 2 "pure power" hitters and a couple defense-only substitution options.
Long story short, balance is critical in building an offense that plays to its strengths. Don't sell out to one particular set of ratings.
Pitching? Idk, pitching ratings don't mean as much to me, as a premium member. The ability to make changes when the game requires it, that's the key for me and that's where my pitching wins games.
New Orleans Hot Rods: yes but they're not the ultimate say-so in how a player will perform. overall, a player with higher ratings is more likely to have a better season. key words being MORE LIKELY
Plano Revengers: I agree with Hot Rods
Portsmouth Predators: I think they are very helpful cause it helps the team figure out what he/she needs to improve
St. Louis Ricks: Yes, otherwise they wouldn't be in the game, right? Sure every now and then you have a 69 power hit 20 HRs. Or a pitcher pitcher 70 across the board wins 10 once in a blue moon. But for the most part in my experience, the players that dominate usually so have some pretty stellar ratings.
Dallas Grease Lightning: Hell no
Aurora Tall Guppies: I think Player Ratings matter because you can't go out and win with just anyone but one the players get to a certain point the little difference don't matter as much.
Boston Red Sox 1: Sure, I think player ratings do matter, in general players with higher ratings perform better than those with lower ratings, and it's pretty much the best indicator we have, as career stats are useful but player performance can vary from season to season. Other factors like position in lineup and even the players around them could make a difference too, sometimes one group of players just doesn't click together.

Regina Saskatchewan Ice: Yes I do think that the rankings matter..because it gives the players and coaches to compete to see who's the best players

Winnipeg Frost: No, I don't think player ratings matter. I believe that they do not matter due to the reason that you can have a player with great ratings that will perform terribly.

Cincinnati Lancers: Yes player ratings matter because they determine how strong of hitter or pitcher that player is.

Eugene Spitters: Yeah, like others have said, to an extent. You have to remember that they are a potential indicator, not an end all, be all sort of thing. You can have all the tools, but that doesn't mean you are automatically a star. So yeah, ratings are a solid barometer, but there is more to look at, including statistical trends.

Canberra Cranberries: Ratings don't really matter, because I have found that going by Fair Trade Value is the most effective way. If a 13 FTV pitcher with 100-100-100-100 ratings faces a 15 FTV pitcher with 80-87-59-94 ratings, it's my belief that the 15 FTV pitcher will win. And I've won a league title with this ragtag looking team.

It also doesn't cost much to keep them from being bid on.

YES: 15                                                                            NO: 4

Bidding

Bidding has become a touchy subject recently. Here are a few responses to the situation:

Portland Cobras: Bidding has just turned into a click war.

Aurora Tall Guppies: The current bidding system is solid but I don't think it should show up on news feed because it allows teams to sit there and bid on players that normally nobody would bid on.

Boston Red Rox 1: On bidding? It's a fair system, whether people like it or not, feel like contracts could be increased for free teams to help them retain their players (as in real life player markets, you're not just limited to 2 contracts or so, lol), maybe having them increase in price as you sign more, something like that.

Cincinnati Lancers: I think it should be changed in some way there should be a max limit on how much you can bid.

Which Pitcher Stat Do You Think Is The Most Important?

Control, Movement, Velocity, or Stamina?

Plano Revengers: Control is the most important. Without control, the chances of the pitcher throwing a walk or a hit increases dramatically. Having a 40-80-80-90 pitcher is going to be worse than a pitcher with 40 movement, velocity, or stamina, he'll just give up too many hits above all else. If you can't control the ball you are doomed. Anchorage Aces: I'd probably say it has to be a combination of Control, Movement and Stamina. They all have to be 80's (with the exception of stamina I think you could get away with a 70's for that) or higher. If even one of them is too low, it screw's up the pitchers stats. I don't think there's one that's more or less important, except velocity, which I think can be a little lower and you could still have a good pitcher.
